Trojans in good hands with Thwaites
CALGARY, ALTA., (July 5, 2022) – The SAIT Trojans Athletics and Recreation Department have hired Harley Thwaites as their new Head Athletic Therapist.
Thwaites will join the post-secondary organization after spending three seasons with Calgary's professional soccer team, Cavalry FC. SAIT boasts 19 teams that compete at both the varsity and club level, and Thwaites will be tasked with supporting the Trojan student athletes during their time at the post-secondary.
"I am excited about the opportunity to be joining the athletes, staff and coaches at SAIT," said Thwaites. "I like the focus the Trojans take on helping their athletes develop from a physical and technical development, while also focusing on their overall health and well-being. As an institute with competitive sports programs, I look forward to helping the teams perform at their best and continue with their success."
Thwaites takes over the role after Kate Major announced her departure at the end of the 2021-22 athletic calendar following five seasons with the Trojans. He grew up in Vancouver before moving to Winnipeg to study athletic therapy.
Following the completion of his schooling, he ventured back west to Calgary and began his career with Calgary Foothills FC of the Premier Development League (PDL). He has spent the past three seasons with Cavalry FC where he helped establish the club's medical department as their Head of Athletic Therapy since their inaugural season in the Canadian Premier League.
"Adding Harley Thwaites as our new Head Athletic Therapist has our department very excited," says Wade Kolmel, Director of Athletics and Recreation at SAIT. "His experience working with high performance athletes will continue a standard of excellence that our student athletes will benefit from. He brings a holistic approach that will focus on ensuring all Trojans are performing at their best and enjoying sport."
