ACAC Athletes of the Week
2009-10 Season
- March 1- March 2, 2010 - Kim Lee (Women's Basketball) Kim Lee put on another excellent performance in this weekend's games, outdoing even her usual high standard of play. In the Trojans semi-final win vs. the King's University College Eagle (77-45), she racked up 21 points, seven steals and three blocked shots. With an outstanding 38 points, seven steals, six rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot in the gold medal game; the fifth year guard, Lee, led Trojans to an 84-72 victory over the Lethbridge Kodiaks to claim their first ACAC crown since 2001. Furthermore, she played another outstanding defensive game, holding her opponent to only 10 points. It was an incredible performance by the Toronto, O.N. native who is enrolled in Business Administration at SAIT Polytechnic.
- February 22 - February 28, 2010 - Kim Lee (Women's Basketball) Kim Lee, a fifth year guard forthe SAIT Trojans, put on another excellent performance in this weekend's ACAC playoff games. She led the Trojan's to a sweep over Grand Prairie in the quarter final series. In Thursday's 90-46 victory Lee recorded 24 points on 10 for 16 opportunities, including four out of eight from the three-point line. Defeating the Wolves 81-61 in Friday's game, she had 27 points in nine of 15 attemps, including seven of 12 three-pointers. Furthermore Lee logged 11 assists and 4 steals over the two games. The Toronto, ON native is enrolled in Business Administration at SAIT Polytechnic.
- February 22 - February 28, 2010 - Keith McLeod (Men's Volleyball) Keith McLeod, a second year middle, was instrumental in the Trojan's ACAC Volleyball Championship win this past weekend. In the quarter final game against Lethbridge he led the Trojans from a 7-0 deficit to a 16-14 victory, recording 17 kills, six stuff blocks and one dig. The following day, the Trojans were up against the defending National Champions, MacEwan Griffins. With seven kills and two stuff blocks. McLeod was a key contributor to the Trojans' 3-0 sweep. In the Gold Medal match, he was again dominant with his net play. His play in the previous two matches caused Briercrest to focus their defensive scheme on him and that opened up scoring opportunities for his teammates. McLeod is enrolled in Petroleum Engineering Technology at SAIT Polytechnic and is from Cold Lake, AB.
- January 11 - January 17, 2010 - Kenny Rauwerda (Men's Volleyball) Kenny Rauwerda's offensive dominance in this weekend's games makes him a team and league leader. With 56 kills on the weekend, Rauwerda broke a league record for the 2009-10 season. In Friday's 3-2 victory over the Mount Royal Cougars he had 26 kills. On Saturday, the 6'5" right side outdid himself again logging 30 kills with 28 of those after 4 games. Furthermore, he recorded eight blocks and three service aces over the weekend. Rauwerda is leading the ACAC in kills, with 206 - 50 more than the second place holder. He also holds the seventh place in service aces and ninth in blocks. The Acme, AB native is enrolled in Chemical Engineering Technology at SAIT Polytechnic.
- November 30 - December 6, 2009 - Blake Robson (Men's Hockey) Sophomore Blake Robson opened up the scoring and was last to add to the scoreboard in Friday's game against the Mount Royal Cougars. Robson also recorded two assists, making a significant contribution to the Trojans 5-2 victory. In Sunday's win against the MacEwan Griffins he netted four of Trojans eleven goals. With a total of 17 goals in 16 games on the season, this weekend's games vaulted him from fourth to first place on the ACAC scoring leaders list. Robson continues to lead the conference in points as well, with 38 points. The Calgary, AB native is taking Geomatics Engineering at SAIT Polytechnic.
- November 16 - November 22, 2009 - Kim Lee (Women's Basketball) Lee, the 5'10" Trojan rookie, led the women's basketball team to two victories over the Mount Royal Cougars this past weekend. On Friday at SAIT, Lee was awarded Player of the Game with 24 points, six rebounds, and six assists. At MRU on Saturday night, she again led the team in scoring with 21 points, five rebounds, two steals, and two blocked shots. In addition, Lee defended Mount Royal's top scorer, holding her to 11 points. Lee is leading the ACAC South Division in scoring, is second in steals and fourth in assists. In her fifth year of eligibility, Lee is from Toronto, ON and is taking Business Administration at SAIT Polytechnic.
- November 2 - November 8, 2009 - Kenny Rauwerda (Men's Volleyball) Rauwerda led the SAIT men's volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over the ACAC South Division top seed, Red Deer College Kings last Friday. He made 12 kills and 6 digs on Friday night's victory. He followed this performance with an incredible 27 kills in a 3-1 loss the next night in front of a hostile Red Deer crowd. The 6'5" Rauwerda leads the ACAC in kills in his second year with the team with 108 kills on the season. He has been an important part of the Trojans 4-2 start to the season that saw them ranked ninth in the country going into last week's games.Rauwerda is from Acme, Alberta and is taking Chemical Engineering Technology at SAIT Polytechnic.
- October 26-November 1, 2009 - Landon Kroeker (Men's Hockey) Kroeker proved this past weekend why he is a preeminent goalie in the ACAC with two wins against the Briercrest Clippers. Landon stopped 26 of 28 shots on Friday for the SAIT Trojans win, 7-2 against the Clippers. On Saturday, Kroeker stepped up and showed his leadership in goal when called upon with a Trojan 5-4 lead, and stopped all 18 shots to help SAIT win the game 11-4. Landon is currently at the top of the ACAC Top Goalies list with a 97.3 save percentage after 5 games, 275 minutes played, and 113 shots. He has a goals against average of 0.65 and leads with two shutouts, placing the SAIT Trojans in first place with a record of 7-1. Landon is a 3rd year student from Steinback, MB, taking Business Administration (Financial Services) at SAIT Polytechnic.
2008-09 Season (Second Half)
- March 16-22, 2009 - Reese St. Goddard (Men's Hockey) Reese St. Goddard turned away 23 shots in Game #5 of the ACAC Championship series against the Mount Royal Cougars to record a 1-0 shutout and win the Championships. This shut out boosted Reese's goalsagainst to 100%, up from 90% in Game # 4. Reese was on the ACAC All-Conference Team 2. This was Reese's second Championship with the Trojans.
- February 9-15, 2009 - Rachel Caputo (Women's Basketball)
The SAIT Trojan women's basketball team split the weekend against the Mount Royal College Cougars. Rachel Caputo, a rookie on the Trojan women's basketball team, had 11 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in Friday's game where SAIT lost 72-64. Rachel then had an incredible 30 points, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 2 rebounds in Saturday's game helping the SAIT Trojans bounce back to win 79-63. SAIT Trojans are third in the south division, clinching a playoff spot. - February 2-8, 2009 - Heidi Kleinsasser (Women's Hockey)
Heidi Kleinsasser, a rookie forward on the SAIT Trojan women's hockey team, had a successful weekendversus the NAIT Ooks to help the Trojan women hold second place in the ACAC standings. Heidi had 1 goal and 2 assists on Friday night in the Trojan's 5-1 win. She notched a hat trick on Saturday as SAIT won 6-2. Heidi is third in team scoring with twenty two points on the season with nine goals and thirteen assists. - January 12-18, 2009 -Kenny Rauwerda (Men's Volleyball)
The SAIT Trojans played the Red Deer Kings in a home and home series over the weekend and split the games. On both nights, Kenny Rauwerda, the 6'5" right side lefthander, led the team in kills and played stellar on both occasions. On Friday, Kenny had 14 kills, 2 stuff blocks, 2 digs and 1 ace. On Saturday, he had 11 kills, 3 stuff blocks, 3 digs and 1 ace.
