Brian 'Spyder' Haynes - Men's Basketball - ATHLETE & BUILDER

Spyder Haynes played for 4 years for the SAIT Men's Basketball Team in the mid-1980's during a time of SAIT domination in the sport. During this time, he established himself as one of the truly outstanding point guards to ever play the game in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference. During his 4 seasons, he played for 2 ACAC Championship Teams (1984-85 & 1986-87), and a CCAA Silver medal team in the 1984-85 season.

He was the Most Valuable Player on the Trojans twice (1987-88 & 1988-89). In 1988-89, Brian was an ACAC First Team All-Star, a CCAA All-Canadian, and SAIT SAIT Male Athlete of the Year.

Spyder returned to the SAIT Campus Centre as an assistant coach with the Women's Basketball Team. He served in this capacity from 1991 to the end of the 1993-94 season, then again in the 1995-96 season. During his tenure, the Trojans compiled a 48-16 ACAC regular season and participated in the CCAA National Championships in the 1992-93 & 1993-94 seasons; the first trips for the women's team in the history of SAIT Athletics. He also coached three All-Canadians from 1991-96, at the time SAIT had a total of 4 in the record books. It was no small part a tribute to Haynes' coaching ability that his teams experienced his such success.

It is with honour and appreciation that Brian "Spyder" Haynes be inducted into the SAIT Athletics Wall of Distinction as both an Athlete and Builder.
