SAIT Trojans Wall of Distinction Criteria

I. Objective:
The SAIT Trojans look to honor those athletes and builders who have significantly contributed to the SAIT Trojans.
One of the Trojan's most cherished athletic traditions is the Wall of Distinction. Originated in 1989, to date there have been more than 20 inductees to the Wall of Distinction.
The primary criterion for selection is that the individual has worked to enhance the success of the SAIT Trojans, has been instrumental in the development of the Trojans and/or advanced the Trojans prestige in one of the following capacities:
II. Criteria:
A. Athlete
1.) The athlete must have competed as a SAIT Trojan, and unless there are exceptional circumstances, graduated from the institution with a degree, diploma, or certificate.
2.) The athlete must have conducted him/herself in an acceptable manner, both on and off the playing surface, in terms of sportsmanship, honesty and integrity.
3.) The athlete must have attained an outstanding achievement/performance at the post-secondary level as a SAIT Trojan.
4.) An athlete must be nominated based on their Athletic Excellence, with possible consideration of Academic Success, and Community Citizenship.
5.) Athletes shall not be nominated while still actively participating. They must be removed from post secondary competition for a minimum of 3 years.
B. Builder
1.) The builder must have made a major contribution to the SAIT Trojans over a significant period of time as an administrator, coach, manager, trainer, minor official or volunteer.
2.) The builder must have meritoriously served the SAIT Trojans, Athletics and Recreation Department or a particular Trojans sport.
3.) Nominations of builders should include support from the administration of SAIT Polytechnic.
4.) Builders should be removed from the capacity in which they are being nominated for at least 3 years.
C. Team
1.) A team must be a SAIT Trojans team having won a regional, provincial or National championship.
2.) The members of the team that would be inducted will include those team members (athletes and/or staff) identified by the administrators/coaches of that particular team.
3.) Teams eligible for induction are those whose accomplishments occurred a minimum of 10 years prior to the submission of the nomination.
4.) Having been inducted as a team does not restrict any individual from being nominated as an athlete or builder.
III. Nominations:
A. Nominations shall be solicited from the following:
- SAIT Trojans or Trojans Alumni
- SAIT Community/Alumni
- General Public
B. Submitting Nominations:
- Create nomination in a typewritten electronic format that meets criteria listed above. This is mandatory for all nominations.
- Nomination forms to be emailed to: trojans@sait.ca DEADLINE FOR NOMINATION ARE: May 29
- Nominations received in a non-standard format will be returned for re-submission.
- If the nomination is successful, both the nominee and the nominator will be informed.
- In the case of an unsuccessful nomination, the nominator alone is informed.
- The nomination remains on file and is subject to review in further years.
- Nominations become the property of SAIT Polytechnic and will not be returned.
- Nominations shall reflect upon the character and conduct of the person or persons nominated. This information should be supported by letters of reference from exemplary individuals from the organization and/or community.
- Before sending the nomination form to the SAIT Trojans Wall of Distinction Selection Committee, please ensure all applicable information has been completed, and that a suitable black and white photograph (5X7 inches) is included with the nomination.
IV. Selection:
The selection committee shall be as follows:
- 1 - current SAIT Athletic Director (non-voting Chair)
- 1 - current SAIT Athletics Manager
- 2 - members of SAIT staff
- 1 - current SAIT Trojans athlete or coach
- 1 - athlete alumni representative
1. The selection of inductees shall be the sole responsibility of the selection committee.
2. A maximum of three inductees i.e.) one athlete, one builder, and one team shall normally be selected on an annual basis.
3. Inductees shall be suitably recognized and formally inducted to the Wall of Distinction at a SAIT Trojans formal function.
